Checking out this week’s attendees of New York Fashion Week reminded us what dry cleaning tips we would give them to keep their designer clothing looking fresh for years. NYFW is always a chance for celebrities and artists to showcase the current trends while attending the shows.
Meanwhile, the shows themselves highlight the future of fashion. From DKNY to Tom Ford, people are putting their personal style on display for the world to critique. At Pico Cleaners, we’ve had years of experience dry cleaning designer clothing, without damaging the clothes. Having looked at some of the outfits ourselves from the past week, here’s a look at who we liked and dry cleaning tips we would have for them.
Zendaya
Looking very chic and 90s, she opted for a true blue look from head to toe. She wore a blue and white striped bandeau and choker on the top with blue polka dot pants that billowed around her frame. Not only did she look phenomenal (and she always does!) but she playfully paired the two patterns and it paid off! The pants she was wearing were made of silk, giving them that thin appearance. With an item as delicate silk, washing her pants in a regular washer machine would more than likely tear them apart (or at the very least fray them). Our powerful yet delicate machines would clean her pants easily without causing the fabric to unravel.
Uma Thurman
Turning heads at the Tom Ford show, Uma chose an LBD (Little Black Dress). The sleek dress was styled with contrasting fabrics. The sleeves were made with velvet, while the dress itself was satin. Because the sleeves were made with velvet it would definitely need to be dry-cleaned. In fact, velvet is one of the most common fabrics to dry clean. This is usually because the material is so expensive that no one wants to run the risk of damaging it. Our professional experts know how to handle expensive fabrics, like velvet, so you don’t have to worry about damaging expensive materials.
Russell Westbrook
The professional basketball player recently dubbed himself the “Fashion King” of New York Fashion Week. Attending multiple events he was seen effortlessly sporting different looks like this one from Harper’s Bazaar event. He casually put together a Brain Dead t-shirt with a Capri pants suit that gave a fresh, fashionable update to the regular suit. Dark colors looked good on the basketball player but dark colors can fade over time, especially with regular washer machines and detergent. At Pico Cleaners we use products that are not only safe for dark colors but also safe for the environment. We make sure your darks remain dark so you can wear them for years without them fading.
Zayn Malik
Wearing a two-piece suit with a turtleneck, the pop star was spotted at the Tom Ford show looking very distinguished. The former One Direction band member showed off a really good example of what a classic suit can do for any man (instantly make them look dapper and polished). At Pico Cleaners, we can easily dry clean any suit. Any man will tell you that a good suit, (especially one that you have tailored to fit you perfectly) is hard to find.
When one is found, it is cherished for years. As the business man’s “uniform,” a suit has to last for years and dry cleaning it is the only way to keep it preserved. Not only are we experts in dry cleaning but we also offer shirt laundering to keep your business shirts looking pressed. For Zayn’s cashmere turtleneck, one of the dry cleaning tips we would offer is to steam the wrinkles to get them out without using a hot iron, to keep him looking sharp.
Madonna
Showing up to the Alexander Want show, Madonna contrasted the comfortability of a tracksuit with the tightness of a lacy corset. True to form, she pulled the shocking combination off. She also highlighted a trend that is still growing, the “athleisure” trend (where clothing designed for athletic purposes are worn in other settings) that has been circling around fashion houses.
Athletic wear in general (particularly when wearing it during workouts and not to the first row of a fashion show) is usually difficult to clean for the average person, mainly due to stains. Since she’s wearing a delicate corset, we would spot treat it first before cleaning it to make sure we focus on any particular stains that may be harder to get out with regular treatment. Given the elasticity that has to hold up, we would advise against using a dryer with hot heat. Even hang drying pieces like a corset outside can cause discoloration from the sun. For us, dry cleaning Madonna’s attire would’ve been handled with care making sure to spot-treat the corset and her tracksuit.
Dry Cleaning Tips to the Stars
We’re looking forward to next spring to see what the next New York Fashion Week looks like and what other celebrities will put together. But in the meantime, if you have any of the above garments or any other type of designer clothing that you need dry cleaned to make sure to stop by Pico Cleaners located at 9150 West Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles. Having earned the reputation of “Dry Cleaner to the Stars,” we help accommodate the prominent organizations of the entertainment industry. Allow our dry cleaning tips to help keep your fashion style up to par. Our friendly staff can also assist you with any of your designer needs.
