Pico Cleaners – Your Local Halloween Costume Cleaning Experts!
Creepy decorations dress the front yards and windows of neighbors. Temporary Halloween costume shops proliferate across vast swaths of suburban areas, offering an overwhelming display of outfits to choose from. A certain uncanny spookiness lingers in the air. These are just some of the many indisputable signs that Halloween is upon us. However, although many of us buy new costumes year after year (or wear the same ones), seldom is the question, “How do I wash this thing!” properly answered. We can address your Halloween costume cleaning questions once and for all.
First, it is important to note: your costume probably can and should be washed. Most Halloween costumes are made out of synthetic polyester. Synthetic polyester is cheap and easy to manufacture, and so to its benefit, it can be acquired relatively cheaply. However, this comes at a heavy price: it stinks! Polyester absorbs sweat effectively, but unlike cotton or other fabrics, it does not let body moisture air out. The result is that all of the sweat garnered from years of trick-or-treating is still dried in the fabric of your costume. Unless you’ve properly washed your outfit out, this makes for a very smelly, unsanitary, and what some would even say ghoulish experience.
“Easy,” you might say. “I’ll just throw my costume in the washing machine before the festivities begin.”
When it comes to washing your beloved polyester Halloween outfit, you cannot simply throw a costume into the washer and dryer unless you want your costume to come out faded or in miniature size. Polyester shrivels up next to nothing in the heat. Likewise, many polyester costumes are made of low-quality synthetic polyester, and can easily lose color or distort when submerged in water. If your costume has any extra rivets, buttons, or sequins added on, forget about it! Those will almost certainly be gone after going through the wash too.
The Solution for Halloween Costume Cleaning: Dry Cleaning
The tag on your costume doesn’t read “DRY CLEAN ONLY” for no good reason! Dry cleaning will not shrink your outfit, nor will it break down the integrity of the fabric of your costume. After dry cleaning, your Halloween outfit will remain just like you last left it, only now it will be sparkling clean, smell great, and be ready for another romping evening of abuse. Also, if you have an old Halloween costume not made out of synthetic materials but still nonetheless you wear every year and haven’t washed it in who knows how long, bring that in too! We’ll get it back to you before the big night looking (and smelling) as good as new.
